What is a print head?
The print head is a component of all types of UV inkjet printers, which is used to transmit the required image to the selected print medium. The print head will spray the ink on the surface of the printing service according to the pattern required to produce the final image.
The nozzle is composed of many electronic components and multiple nozzles, which will accommodate different ink colors. Most commonly, the print head will use inks that include cyan, yellow, magenta, and black, with other colors that sometimes include light magenta and light cyan.
The circuit sends a message to the print nozzles to signal each nozzle when and how much ink needs to be output. In most cases, the print head assembly is located inside the cartridge or cartridge.
After sending the image to the printer, the print head will receive the image information as an indication, and then it will evaluate the required strength, quantity, and position of ink. After the calculation is completed, the print head will move horizontally line by line until the image is completed.
Types of the print head
In the process of digital ink-jet printing, there are two main types of print heads, namely piezoelectric and thermal. These print heads differ in the type of image used to create the image and how it is formed.
Piezoelectric type
In the piezoelectric print head, micro piezoelectric elements are built behind each print nozzle. In order to drip the ink, an electric charge will be applied to the element, which will move the nozzle backward. When this movement occurs, an accurate amount of ink will be deposited on the substrate.
Because this type of print head is controlled by charge, the number of ink droplets can be well controlled, because its function is the same as that of a switch. These print heads are known for their ability to create perfectly formed dots of various sizes. Piezoelectric print heads are best suited for UV curing, aqueous, and solvent-based inks.
Thermosensitive type
An alternative to piezoelectric print heads is thermal inkjet technology. In thermal technology, the print head is operated by heat rather than electricity. The concept of thermal printing is similar to the boiling mode of water. Thermal technology will energize the micro resistor located behind the print nozzle, generating strong heat. When this heat occurs, it will evaporate the ink and form bubbles, which will expand rapidly and explode on the paper or substrate.
After the ink is ejected from the nozzle, it will quickly cool and then refill, repeating the process. Thermal print heads are best suited for water-based inks, such as latex inks for outdoor signage and many textile applications.
